Software Engineer - Shop (Web & Browser Extension)
// Job description
ID.me is seeking a Software Engineer III to join the Shop team, where we build the web and browser extension experiences that power personalized shopping, exclusive offers, and coupon discovery for over 140 million members. The Shop platform is one of ID.me's fastest-growing consumer products — enabling members to unlock verified discounts and rewards across hundreds of top brands, all backed by the security and trust of the ID.me identity network.
As a Software Engineer III, you will contribute to both the web-based shopping experience and the Chrome browser extension that seamlessly surfaces deals and personalized offers as members browse the internet. Your work will sit at the intersection of identity, commerce, and consumer experience — helping real people save money and engage with brands through a trusted, verified identity.
This position will work from our Mountain View, CA office five days per week.
Key Responsibilities
Build & Ship Shop Features: Build, maintain, and improve the ID.me Shop web application and Chrome browser extension, delivering performant, accessible, and engaging consumer experiences. Independently drive small-to-medium features end-to-end from design through deployment.
Offer & Commerce Experiences: Implement and iterate on features such as personalized offer surfaces, coupon auto-apply, deal discovery flows, and shopping rewards — collaborating closely with Product and Design to translate requirements into well-tested, production-ready code.
Code Quality & Engineering Craft: Write high-quality, maintainable code with strong test coverage, following team best practices around code reviews, CI/CD, and documentation.
Third-Party Integrations: Integrate with e-commerce platforms, affiliate networks, and third-party APIs to extend the reach and functionality of the Shop experience. Proactively raise issues or opportunities discovered during integration work.
Security & Privacy Best Practices: Apply security and privacy best practices in all feature work, with particular attention to browser extension permissions, data handling, and authenticated identity flows.
Required Qualifications
Proficiency with AI-assisted development tooling (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor), in addition to a commitment to an AI-first engineering culture that leverages these tools to maximize code quality, test coverage, and engineering velocity.
Proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript, with hands-on experience building React/Next.js applications.
Demonstrated ability to independently ship well-tested, production-quality features with minimal oversight.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a track record of working effectively across Product, Design, and Engineering.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience building or contributing to browser extensions using the WebExtensions API (Chrome, Safari, or Firefox).
